NO RISK GATE ORDERING. After ordering, your personalized wooden gate diagram will be e-mailed to you for your review and approval or NO PENALTY cancellation. In our response, we'll suggest a recommended minimum and maximum gate opening compatible with your design. You can adjust your design as many times as needed, or cancel without penalty. Your card is NOT CHARGED until you tell us to build it.

WHY UPS SHIPPING COSTS SO MUCH. Gates that ship via UPS require special crating, where the crate is built to fit your specific gate. Each crate is unique, and stops double stacking of boxes from hurting your gate. Learn about UPS packing here.

DELIVERY TIME AND AREAS: Gates shipped by UPS in the continental US ship two weeks from the time you approve your design. In our local Washington DC-Annapolis and Central Delmarva MD area? (see gate drop-off area). Then your gate will be dropped off no later than 3 weeks after order.

MARGINS:. We work with you to allow enough margin for your hinges, and for your gate to swing. (Does not apply to freestanding gates). Margin will be explained on your gate diagram. Learn more on how we measure.

GATE INFORMATION: Gates are delivered unfinished. Stained and finished gates are available at significant extra cost. See our finishes. Specify (optional) finishes in comment block at checkout, or in your design diagram. Mission gates, freestanding gates, and tall cat gates made of poplar; Classic gates of hemlock with poplar side rails; beadboard gates of cedar beadboard with poplar rails. Beadboard cedar has smooth knots and strong attractive graining. No knots in mission, classic, tall cat, or freestanding gates. The gate height is the distance between the top of the handrail and bottom of the foot rail. The gate's side rails extend up to an inch above the handrail, and 1/2" below the foot rail. Your gate (excluding freestanding styles) includes 2 hinges (4 hinges for 2-door gates, 3 for tall gates), caster (two with 2-door gates), hook-and-eye latch, screws, and detailed instructions. Lift latch (click to view) provided with 2-door Mission gates only. Hinges surface mounted. Gates are compatible with slide bolt, magnetic, snap bolt, cane bolts, and other latches available at any local hardware store. Using casters is optional. Our casters, with their 2" wheels, allow your gate's foot rail to start at 2 1/2" off the floor. You may, of course, mount gate higher or lower according to your preference. Gates may pull towards you or push away given how you mount the hinges.

PLANKS: Planks are MANDATORY only when hinging to, or latching to, a wall (view here). Please review our "How to Measure" details if your gate is being attached to a wall. Planks are NOT NEEDED if the gate side is being attached to wood posts or a doorframe. Please select the PLANK OPTION if you have a wall on either side. Planks are not required for freestanding gates. Planks are pre-drilled for easy anchoring to stud or masonry behind your walls. They are finished to match your gate. Gate hinges to, or latches to, plank. Tall cat gates should only be used in doorframes, and not plank mounted due to heavier weight.

OUR COMMITMENT TO THE APPROVED DESIGN. Your approved design diagram may be different from your Yahoo order. Your approved design diagram is the sole "master" document for building your gate (see sample). Please amend it as much as needed. We commit to building the gate as you have specified in the design diagram. Customer is solely responsible for ensuring the accuracy of gate dimensions and finishes in the design diagram. The design diagram supersedes any gate parameters listed in either your Yahoo order or in any e-mail correspondence, as our carpenters use only this master diagram in building your gate.
